Creating Custom Shape Presets in Photoshop CS

by Andrea Sampson

So you want to create a custom shape to use in Photoshop?  Follow these easy steps and you're good to go!

1.  Create your shape in black on a transparent canvas using the various tools in Photoshop.

2.  Choose your magic wand, and select your shape.

3.  Go to your paths palette, click the little blue circle with the arrow inside, and choose "make work path".

4.  Go to edit>define custom shape.  Name your shape something descriptive.

5.  Go to edit>preset manager, select custom shapes from the dropdown menu, select the shape you just made, and select "save set".

Now, to load your shape after resetting back to default shapes, simply select your custom shape tool from your toolbox, go to the top bar and click the down arrow next to the shapes.  Click the little blue circle with the arrow inside and choose "load shapes".  Browse to your custom shape and load it.  Easy!
