Hi! Congrats on your decision to begin a low carb lifestyle! I have done a low carb diet several times in the past, but this is my time now--this is the time I am going to make it a lifestyle change and say goodbye to sugar and starch forever! I realize that it just doesn't work with my body at all--I'm meant to be a carnivore! :) (with a few leafy greens thrown in!)

I started on a low carb diet on Jan. 2 and my husband is on it as well. I have ALOT of weight to lose, but I have lost 10 lbs so far! Jeremy has lost 7, but he's only about 12 lbs over his goal weight.

Please intrduce yourself!

HI ANdrea,
I also started a low carb high protein diet on January 2nd. I was about 7 lbs short of my goal weight but in almost two weeks have lost 2 lbs. It's not a whole lost but I quess being I don't have bunches to lose it may come off slower. I want to get to my pre-pregnancy weight so I can start trying for baby number 3. Are you following any particular diet. I am doing South Beach for now. Okay, gal lets knock off those pounds.
Smiles,
Chelsea

I'm going to give this a try. I've never been able to do the whole low fat thing. I think I was also meant to be a carnivore. I have a LOT of weight to lose. I weighed in at my doctor's office this week, so I know exactly where I am. I'm so excited to have a support group.

Can you point me in the right direction for some guidelines for this type of diet?

I went to the library and checked out the guide for the South Beach Diet. I also checked out the quick and easy cookbook. Of course, you can purchase these at most any bookstore even Walmart. I read up on the diet and its basic principles then started to plan my meals. Made my grocery list and went shopping. Hope that helps.

I'm doing Atkins--he's the grandaddy of low-carb and brought this new way of eating to light.

I live in the midwest, and fresh fruits and veggies in the winter are pitiful. I'd rather not eat them if they look and taste so horrible. I just bought a 1lb tub of organic baby field greens at Sam's Club for $4.50. It will last our family a week, that's alot of salad! Anyway, my point was that South Beach just isn't geographically as do-able as Atkins because of the rarity of some foods.

Christine--If you are interested in Atkins, I would go to Target or Walmart or Amazon and buy Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution. You can get a paperback for around $5. It's really something you want to have forever to reference, mine is getting dog-eared. I also found Atkins For Life today at Michaels for $5--it's meant mainly for the maintenance phase, I believe.

The #1 thing is having support. We were out today, and I was SO in the mood to take a meal off and cheat--but Jeremy squelched it. (We're both on the plan) We do have a planned cheat day coming up. Our middle son's birthday is Feb. 3, and he has requested to go eat Japanese that day. So, we will cheat that day on tepanyaki, sushi, and birthday cake, but it is going to be a reward for behaving until then. Our next planned cheat day won't be until the end of April, for Jeremy's birthday. We may get so sick cheating that we won't even want to.

Also, Christine, I was reading parts of that new book today in the car, and it was saying that some people just cannot lose on low fat diets, and in a certain amount of the population, doing a low fat diet is dangerous to their health. When I have some time, I'll type more from that excerpt. :)

Thanks! I put those both on hold at my library.

Better late that never I guess... I'm the co-mod for this forum :)

I'm on Atkins for the third (and last!) time. I did really well in 2000, but my mom died, I got pregnant, and I fell off the wagon. I tried again in 2002, but I kept sabotaging myself and then blamed it on LC not working for me anymore.

I restarted on September 12, and I've lost 32.3 pounds so far. January and February have been slow for me as far as pounds lost goes, but I've lost a whole clothing size during that time, so I'll take it! I've always said that I'd rather be a 300 pound size 6 than a 100 pound size 26!

LOL, you're too funny, Katie!!! :)

This isn't the first time around for me either, I've done it several times. It makes such a HUGE difference to have support in this. I would probably be off the wagon already if it weren't for Jeremy doing this with me! And I have my buddies here now to bond together!

I don't think that I could ever stick to this without James' support. When I want to cheat or just give up (which fortunately is RARE), he reminds me of all the reasons that I really want to keep going.
