Hi - I have become disabled - and I can no longer do the things I used to... no more dancing, running, biking, driving, working... I am housebound. Is there a kit somewhere that reflects appreciation of what my new life is, along with reflecting on my "old" life?
Thank you. Sandy

Hey everyone - no replies at all? How about a cane, a wheelchair, a recliner, a handicapped sign, a ramp, a laptop and a table that fits at a recliner... lol... these are all of the things that I am using now - (not a wheelchair yet, though). No one is willing to help me with this? I know it's not a fun or cute project, but it is my life - and I want to scrap this aspect of it, too. Maybe my grandchildren will want to know what happened?

sandy...don't give up...I think we may have designers LoOKINg for a kit for you like this. I am thinking...I wonder if maybe an element kit?
or, wait...what about a "reflections" kit...something which is made for you and "reflecting?" Like you are going to sit down and write about and reflect on what was and what is...hm...there is a kit on the "tip of my brain"....I saw something like that...let me go searching....I am seeing like a desk blotter, writing stuff...a clock which in my mind showed how time changed. Seems like it came out around the new year....

I FOUND IT!!!! I thought it was by Jenn, aka ScrapKitty, and I was right. Very unique kit. It is called "Gotta Get Organized' but I think it would lend itself perfectly to this idea of journaling and telling your story? and the Clock showing how time changed? HERE is the link:

when I get home tomorrow, I will email jenn and see if maybe a "element" kit could be made? hm...great idea sandy

I know I had the trouble finding items when I wanted to scrap photos of my dad, he was in a wheelchair though. I ended up using photos to tell the story and take the place of the elements. But I will think further on this - must be something .....

Sandy, what kind of elements would you like? I could make wheelchairs, canes, all the items you mention, would they be usable? My DH has MS and we will face lessening mobility too, so perhaps i can learn some from you as to what would be appropriate for scrapping those changes. How about some word art - do you have a favorite quote? And as for colors, do you have favorites? I'd LOVE to work on this for you- feel free to email me at sjksbwhite@charter.net and give me more info!

Thank you all for responding. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Thank you for the suggestion about "Gotta Get Organized". I guess what I was thinking is that I'm not the only person with a disability. It seems that a sticker line was made for handicapped children. I just thought there should be a kit for people with disabilities. Maybe some quotes about never giving up; unexpected changes; life can be hard; when one door closes, another opens; every day is a gift... things like that. Maybe a cane, a wheelchair, a handicapped sign; I'm not sure - but I know that I'm not the only person that would appreciate it! Thank you again - It means a lot to me that you took the time to respond!!! I will email this to you as well Jenn. Hugs to you all!

Yes I agree, a kit like that would be wonderful! A hand signing "I love you" would be an awesome addition.

great idea Ari!! I know we have people here who sign, so I shall be sure to include some hearing impaired elements! I'll start working on this as soon as I get the one I'm working on now finished!

i TOTALLY agree on NEVER GIVE UP!!!! I NEVER HAVE!!! As alot of people here know I was involved in a hit and run motorcycle accident that left me a paraplegic. I was not expected to make it. I had died 3 times that day but here I am almost 5 yrs later! I was in pretty bad shape- was in a drug indiced come for 3 weeks so my body could begin healing. I never once gave in or gave up! Life MUST go on! People need me! My choldren need me as well as my grandcholdren plus we had a then 6 yr old still at home!
Becuase I fought so long and hard I am now driving alone. can semi dress myself with help, we go camping. I have flown to Boston alone 4 times., I help in my sons class at school, teach children it's ok to be different when they ask questions, I love to educate them on what happened and how important it is to where a helmet and proper gear when riding. I have accomplished much and have more to do!
Hang in there!!! Life is all what YOU make of it! If we sit and feel sorry for ourselves then it will be cut short. Get out and enjoy life as much as you can!!! You just never know. Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Karen I'm so glad you're in the schools! Both as a reminder how important it is to be safe, as well as a shining example of how to persevere and make your life whatever you want it to be!! Any suggestions you have for this "differently abled" kit are welcome!

Hi Karen - you are officially my hero. Please add anything you can think of to this kit. I'd love it to be used by anyone that is disabled in any way... or anyone who cares about a disabled person. Thank you for sharing your story! God Bless you and your loved ones. Sandy

Sandy's referring to a sneak preview I gave her, so I'll post it here so you all can see:

Now I need some help naming the kit! Any suggestions? I have one name in mind that I can live with, but I'll be you guys can do better!! Remember, my PERSONAL policy (not all designers do this) is if you NAME it you GET it!
Give me your best work!
Jenn :)

How about "I can do it" or "We can do it" or "wheelin and dealin" or "life's turns" or i could go on forever lol

All good, Fran.... keep going....
I'm planning on including items for a variety of issues, so I might not want to emphasize the wheels... hmmm - I like the life's turns- I could include some curvy arrows too...
If you have more, let me have 'em! No limit on entries!!

How about Never Give Up, Differently Abled, Special Abilities or something along that line. I'm not disabled and you girls that are are my heros. But I did do a lot of work with "Special" Children both in school and in working at a preschool during college.

OOH, all good ideas! I'm leaning toward breaking this kit up, the papers are so cool I think lots of people will want them, so I might also offer a paper pack and elements pack, so you can get what you need!
I'm hoping to have this ready Friday... I'll let you know!! Tomorrow's a long day!

I'm thinking along the lines of: Real Life, One Day at a Time, Life Challenges, Day by Day, Life's Journeys, A Different Path, Life Happens, The Open Door (when one door closes, a different one opens), Perfectly Abled... oh, jeez, I guess I'll have to buy this kit, but I'm so excited about it!!!!
